Dozens missing after landslide hits villages in southwest China
CHENGDU, CHINA (BNO NEWS) -- Dozens of people are missing after a landslide hit villages in southwest China on Tuesday morning, state-run media reported.
The state-run Xinhua news agency reported that the landslide, triggered by rain, happened at around 5 a.m. local time and hit villages in Ya'an City, in the country's Sichuan Province.
The landslide sent around 100,000 cubic meters of rocks and mud rushing down the slope of Ermanshan Mountain, destroying homes at the foot of the mountain.
Xinhua reported that 58 homes were damaged. Some 4,000 villages were being relocated out of the area.
On early Monday morning, a landslide in southwest China left 11 people missing and injured 11 people. The search for the missing - including a mother and her 4-year-old daughter - continued on Tuesday.
