Moderate 5.3-magnitude earthquake hits off the coast of Oregon

PORTLAND, OREGON (BNO NEWS) -- A moderate earthquake struck off the coast of Oregon on Wednesday, seismologists said.

The 5.3-magnitude earthquake at 09:12 a.m. local time (1612 GMT) was centered about 129 kilometers (80 miles) west northwest from Barview. It struck about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) making it a shallow earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center initially measured the strength of the earthquake at magnitude 5.2.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.
