LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) -- A strong earthquake struck southern California on Wednesday and was felt in San Diego and Los Angeles and in northern Mexico, seismologists said.
The 5.9-magnitude earthquake at 4.53 p.m. PDT (2353 UTC) was centered about 13 miles (22 kilometers) north-northwest of Borrego Springs. It struck about 7.3 miles (11.7 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the California Integrated Seismic Network.
"Though felt locally, no reports of damage or injury in Los Angeles," said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Brian Humphrey. "LAFD remains in a normal operating mode," Humphrey added.
