Congressman Mike Rogers says PFC Bradley Manning should face death penalty for Wikileaks case

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- Congressman Mike Rogers in an interview with Michigan radio station WHMI on Monday said that if Pfc. Bradley Manning did in fact leak classified documents to the Wikileaks website, he should be executed.

"He releases this information to a third party who they say will make the determination that there's nothing harmful in it, while we know for a fact that there will be people that will likely be killed because of this information being disclosed," Rogers, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the state of Michigan, said.

"That's pretty serious," he added. "If they don't charge him with treason, they ought to charge him with murder."

The radio host then asks the congressman if treason during wartime is a capital offense, which is punishable by death penalty.

"Yes, and I would support it 100 percent," Rep. Rogers responded, as he had before underlined that a "culture of disclosure" is a "serious and growing problem." The congressman explained the difficulty to make a decision to disclose or leak information "based on one piece of the puzzle, but they do so often."

"He put soldiers at risk who are out their fighting for our country and he put people who are cooperating with the U.S. government clearly at risk," he continued. "Our soldiers will be out of the combat zone one day, but those folks will never be."

"It's incredibly dangerous."

On July 28, the Pentagon had signaled Army intelligence analyst Manning as the main suspect for leaking around 91,000 classified U.S. documents to the whistle blower website Wikileaks.

Manning was arrested by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command in May and detained without charges for over a month in a military jail in Kuwait. In July, he was charged in relation to the leak of the video showing U.S. forces killing two Reuters journalists and numerous Iraqi civilians in addition to allegedly sending 260,000 sensitive diplomatic cables.

  • Justin Clark :

Using that notion, Mike Rogers should be executed himself. After all, he continues to support & endorse endless war that puts the lives of US soldiers and civilians of other countries at risk, while lying to us about the reasons behind wars and occupations and the disastrous way that they’re progressing. He’ll do anything to prevent the truth from emerging while continuing to spread lies and deceit. He has no concern at all for how the survivors of these wars are left, because he can sit at home sacrifing others while his bank account continues to skyrocket. And he doesn’t represent the wishes of the constituient, but arms and weapons dealers instead and foreign powers such as Israel which makes him the traitor.

I have to say that if the only way the American people can learn what is being done with our money in our name is to have it leaked then so be it. The only reason this is such a big deal is that it emarrasses the government. Now lawmakers are saying the leaker should be executed. Yeah right along with the person who leaked the name of a working CIA cover agent. I like the fact that during the Bush Administration, laws fell like flies without so much as a peep from the GOP. Now they want heads to roll for anything and everything. The word hipocracy is too overused a word to describe the right’s response to this faux scandle. They are such big frauds that you have to laugh every time they open their outraged mouths. The military will sort out what should be done to the soldier but I say if you don’t want to be embarrassed by your actions, stop doing embarrassing things, like lying and killing willy nilly. I’ve heard that Wikileaks are redacting the documents and if that’s true then all the hand wringing about people getting killed as a result of the leaked docs is all a sham because if nothing else, the GOP and the rest of the war hawks know that screaming fire in the theater will help them get their way. And right now those hawks would rather the American people didn’t know what is being done in our name with our money. We need to stop bombing other countries and start rebuilding our country. The one we have to live in. It needs the money more than other countries need bombing. Just because the only jobs available in this country are located in war plants doesn’t mean we have to be in war all the time. I know for a fact that factories after WWII was over, were retooled for peacetime jobs and peacetime products. What is wrong with the arms plants retooling, spend some of their gynormous profits on that so that Americans can get back to the lives we used to have before Bush and the GOP sent us down the toilet.

  • Shirley Blaylock :

    I agree with Justin Clark.

  • Fred :

I disagree with Congressman Rogers remark about Pfc Manning. Pfc Manning should be awarded the Medal Of Honor for exposing the deceit and lies the United States government has consistently told the American people. There should be no trial for Pfc Manning. The release of these documents is just another example of the lack of integrity in our government. There has been so many lies told by our government over the last 70 years, that it has reached a point where those informed Americans cannot trust our government anymore. Very sad indeed for the American people. Ask yourself just one question. Would any of you want your son or daughter to die or be severely wounded for these people in Washington?

  • M Henri Day :

Those who should be charged with treason and murder – and crimes against the peace and other war crimes – are members of the US executive branch that ordered these unconstitutional foreign wars of aggression and those in the legislative branch that allowed this usurpation of the powers of the Congress to take place. Mr Rogers has been a US Congressman since 2001 ; thus he cannot escape his share of responsibility for these crimes….

  • Cindy Sheehan :

I agree with Justin Clark. The people who start the wars are NEVER the ones to sacrifice their own flesh and blood. Plus, these congressmen commit treason against the American people each time they accept lobbyist dollars to make rules that negatively affect us all.

If our elected officials accept bribes, FIRE THEM.

  • TheAZCowBoy :

Always interesting to hear them US Congressional harlots and poster boys talking about patriotism when most of them are ‘owned and operated’ by AIPC.

  • Kenneth T. Tellis :

When a country which resorts to murder civilians domestic or foreign they should not expect that they have immunity from the law.

Congressman Mike Rogers and his ilk should be tried by a War Crimes Tribunal for the murder of civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq. Pfc. Bradly Manning should be given the highest military decoration for exposing corrupt politicians and their stooges for hiding their nefarious activities, under the guise of National Security.

  • bruce :

i think that all of you are commie traitors should ride old sparky like the rosenbergs.

  • Jane :

Thank you Bruce. Yes Manning should Die if he is guilty. He was a traitor to our country. The Men and Women that serve in our military are Husbands/Wives, Moms/Dads, Brothers/Sisters, Aunts/Uncles, and someones Child and the info that was leaked could have easily killed anyone of them. These people are fighting so you lazy good for nothings can keep your freedom and remain safe, they deserve a lot more respect.

  • Thomas :

The only people who oppose Manning do so out of some twisted sence of patriotism…the idea that he betrayed his country… wile he is the closest thing you currently have to a real hero.

the rest of the world does not share your delusions, that is why noone outside of america approves of the way things are being handled.

I can emphathise with actual patriots who uphold the constitution that was disigned to prevent this kind of tyrany. but it is brushed aside casualy by politicians.

I pity the misguided pawns who send theire family to die. Many would rather lie to themselves then face the fact it was all for the wrong cuase.

  • Bob :

    @Thomas

What? What lies and deceit? That a bunch of journalists that decided to plant themselves in a warzone were mistakenly identified as the enemy? They knew the dangers of walking around in a war zone. Journalists die all of the time. We can’t have individual soldiers playing judge and jury and marketer on what is and what isn’t a ‘crime’.
