BAQUBA, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) – Eight Iraqi soldiers died on Wednesday after an explosion in a house in the northern province of Diyala, Al Jazeera television reported.

The attack occurred after the Iraqi forces clashed with a group of armed men at a security point. After fifteen minutes of fighting, the gunmen lured the troops into a booby-trapped house. The soldiers went after them in order to arrest the suspected insurgents.

The Iraqi soldiers surrounded the house when it suddenly explode, killing eight of them in the process. The armed men were able to escape from the crime scene and the Iraqi Army went looking for them.

The blast took place at 5:00 a.m. local time in the town of Saadiyah, about 100 kilometers from Baghdad. Four other soldiers received minor injuries from the explosion.

In July, over 100 people were killed in Iraq due to the renewed violence after the parliamentary election of March 7, being this the deadliest month in almost two years.
