KABUL (BNO NEWS) – One Afghan civilian on Monday was killed and another wounded when an Afghan and coalition force on a medical evacuation mission in Helmand province was allegedly forced to fire on two Afghan civilians who reportedly displayed hostile intent, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force announced on Tuesday.

The combined force established a perimeter to await the arrival of a medical evacuation helicopter when two Afghan civilians approached the cordon. The combine force used protocol and established procedures to warn the individuals to stop and exit the area. They ignored the warnings and continued to advance.

The combined force was forced to fire on the civilians. The combined forced evacuated the wounded civilian to a nearby coalition medical facility where he received treatment. The incident is currently under review.
