U.S. Congressman Bobby Bright jokes that Pelosi might die before winning re-election, elicits laughs
WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) – U.S. Congressman Bobby Bright on Thursday cracked a morbid joke at U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s expense while speaking at the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s Eggs and Issues, the Montgomery Advertiser reported.
Bright, a first-term Democrat and former mayor of Montgomery, Alabama, joked that Pelosi might lose her own election, decide not to run for the job of Speaker, or might fall ill or die within the coming months. The remark drew laughter from the crowd, as despite him having the reputation of being the second most independent member in Congress, he is routinely chided for voting for Pelosi to be Speaker.
He is facing a tough battle for re-election against Montgomery City Councilwoman Martha Roby, a Republican, come November. Bright is the first Democrat since the 1960s to represent the typically staunchly conservative district, which includes parts of Montgomery and southeast Alabama.
