UConn vs. Kentucky-Final Four Matchup

When UConn and Kentucky meet in the Final Four this coming Saturday it won’t be the first time Calhoun and Calipari’s teams will have met.  Earlier this year the two teams met in Maui resulting in UConn side winning 84-67.

The last game between these two teams, the Kentucky Wildcats saw Kemba Walker explode for 29 point and 2 rebounds to go along with his 6 assists and 2 steals. It wasn’t all bad news for Kentucky.  Terence Jones finished the night with 24 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks and 2 steals in just 27 minutes of action.

However, Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight had a forgettable game in the finale. The freshman scored just 6 points on 3-of-15 shooting from the field, while dishing out 5 assists. Knight turned the ball over 5 times and never looked comfortable handling the ball. This game will not see that same performance from Knight.

Calipari’s squad knows how to win. In their Elite Eight game against the UNC Tarheels , they stopped the run and gun offense of UNC. Previously this year when UNC and Kentucky met, the Wildcats could not stop Kendal Marshall and Harrison Barnes. Last week Kenutchy showed that they can make adjustments to stop a team.

The Wildcats have shown that they know how to win by beating Princeton, West Virginia,  Ohio State (the number one seeded team going into the tournament) and last weeks win over a promising UNC team. With every player picking up their game in the tournament Kentucky has shown it’s true talent and depth.

Let’s not forget about the other team in this contest. The UConn Huskies have one of the best players the NCAA has seen this year. Kemba Walker is leading his team in style this tournament. Since the Big East Tournament, Kemba has torn up the NCAA. Kemba has turned from a player who knows how to score, to a player who knows how to score and distribute the ball.

In Draft Expresses Top 100 Prospects only TWO players from UConn are ranked and only one besides Kemba. This shows that UConn has that one “superstar” but they are a team that knows how to play their roles effectively.

This game is going to be a game some of the two best coaches in Division One basketball. My prediction:  UConn 77 Kentucky 74. Expect a big game from Kemba.
