ACAPULCO, MEXICO (BNO NEWS) -- At least 15 people were killed on Saturday in separate attacks in the Mexican resort city of Acapulco, La Jornada newspaper reported Sunday.

The Public Safety Department confirmed the killings of 15 people throughout the day. Around 7:29 p.m., a man divided into 13 parts was found, while the dismembered remains of another man were left in a black bag in a different location.

The police report said that ten men and one woman were killed by gunfire in eight different neighborhoods. A 52-year-old woman and a 19-year-old boy were among the dead.

In addition, a man was killed after being hit in the neck with a farming tool, while another man was found dead and bearing signs of torture.

Acapulco has been marred with organized crime violence in the past months. Last Saturday, the decapitated bodies of five women were found, including the naked body of a 14-year-old girl.

According to government figures, a total of 15,273 drug-related crimes occurred in Mexico in 2010. More than 30,000 people have died in drug-related violence since Mexican President Felipe Calderón began the fight against organized crime in December 2006.
